Nvidia Reportedly Eyes $2.5 Billion Thinking Machines Lab Stake as Mira Murati’s AI Startup Targets $40 Billion-Plus Valuation
Nvidia is reportedly considering an investment of roughly $2.5 billion in Mira Murati’s Thinking Machines Lab as the startup discusses a multibillion-dollar funding round at a valuation of at least $40 billion.
Why it matters: The reported financing would further blur the line between Nvidia as semiconductor supplier and Nvidia as a strategic capital allocator to the AI companies consuming its infrastructure.
Nvidia is reportedly considering another enormous artificial-intelligence investment, this time in Mira Murati’s Thinking Machines Lab. The Information reports that the startup is discussing a $5 billion to $6 billion financing at a pre-money valuation of at least $40 billion, with Nvidia expected to provide roughly half of the capital. The transaction has not closed and its size or terms could still change.
The reported talks would deepen a relationship that is already substantial. In March, Nvidia and Thinking Machines Lab announced a multiyear strategic partnership under which the startup plans to deploy at least one gigawatt of Nvidia Vera Rubin systems beginning in 2027.
The financing would illustrate Nvidia’s expanding role not only as an accelerated-computing supplier but also as a strategic capital provider to companies that consume its infrastructure.
The financing remains a reported negotiation rather than a completed round, but its proposed scale shows how frontier-AI funding rounds are increasingly being paired with compute agreements measured in gigawatts.
