Tencent-Backed Enflame Targets $892 Million IPO as China Expands Domestic AI-Chip Market

Reuters · 2026-08-25

Tencent-backed Enflame Technology plans to raise about $892 million on Shanghai’s STAR Market to fund next-generation AI processors and hardware-software integration.

Why it matters: Enflame’s IPO is a major capital-market test for China’s effort to finance domestic alternatives to restricted U.S. AI accelerators.

Chinese artificial-intelligence chipmaker Enflame Technology is preparing to raise approximately 6 billion yuan, or $892 million, through an IPO on Shanghai’s STAR Market.

The company plans to issue about 43 million new shares representing 10% of its enlarged capital, with public subscriptions scheduled for September 2.

Enflame plans to direct the proceeds toward development and commercialization of next-generation AI processors and projects integrating AI hardware with software.

Founded in 2018 and backed by Tencent, Enflame is commonly grouped with Moore Threads, MetaX and Biren Technology among China’s major emerging domestic GPU developers.

The IPO is another indication that China is building a deeper capital-market ecosystem around domestic AI computing.

U.S. restrictions on advanced semiconductor exports have increased the strategic importance of locally designed accelerators, while public listings provide Chinese chip developers with additional capital to fund increasingly expensive processor development.
