Xiaomi Launches Xring O3 as TSMC Reportedly Builds New 3nm Chip for AI and Flagship Phones
Xiaomi unveiled its second-generation Xring O3 smartphone processor as it expands a multibillion-dollar effort to control more of its own silicon stack.
Why it matters: Xiaomi is extending proprietary silicon from smartphones toward AI and autonomous driving, increasing pressure on established mobile-chip suppliers and deepening vertical integration.
Xiaomi has launched the Xring O3, the second generation of its in-house smartphone processor, as the company expands its effort to reduce dependence on external chip suppliers. Reuters reports that TSMC will manufacture the O3 using advanced 3-nanometer technology. Xiaomi is also developing an Xring O100 neural-processing chip for its MiMo AI models and an Xring D100 for autonomous-driving applications. The company has invested more than 20 billion yuan in chip development and expanded its semiconductor organization to more than 3,000 employees.
