Microsoft Receives First Production Nvidia Vera Rubin Systems as Next-Gen AI Rack Ramp Begins
Microsoft has received its first production Nvidia Vera Rubin systems, marking the transition of Nvidia’s next-generation rack-scale AI platform into hyperscale deployment.
Why it matters: Production Vera Rubin hardware reaching Microsoft marks a concrete transition from Nvidia’s roadmap into hyperscale deployment and provides an important milestone for next-generation AI infrastructure.
Microsoft has received its first production Nvidia Vera Rubin systems, marking an important milestone in the rollout of the chipmaker’s next generation of artificial-intelligence infrastructure.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that the first production systems had arrived at Microsoft data centers, while Nvidia separately said Vera Rubin is ramping into full production.
Microsoft had previously said Azure would become the first hyperscale cloud to power on Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 systems and that the architecture would be introduced into its liquid-cooled data-center fleet.
The announcement confirms production hardware has begun reaching Microsoft, although neither company has said the newly delivered racks are already generally available to Azure customers.
Rubin is Nvidia’s next major rack-scale computing platform after Blackwell and is designed for increasingly demanding AI training, reasoning and inference workloads.
The delivery provides another indication that the AI infrastructure cycle is moving rapidly from Blackwell into its next hardware generation even as cloud providers continue spending heavily on computing capacity.
