Lumilens Raises More Than $700 Million at $5.5 Billion Valuation to Scale AI Photonics
Lumilens raised more than $700 million at a $5.5 billion valuation as demand grows for optical interconnects used to connect large AI accelerator clusters.
Why it matters: AI infrastructure competition is expanding into photonics and optical interconnects as large GPU clusters demand faster and denser connectivity.
AI infrastructure startup Lumilens has raised more than $700 million at a $5.5 billion valuation as investors increase their bets on optical networking technology for artificial-intelligence clusters. The financing takes total capital raised above $900 million. The company says it has begun shipping optical equipment into the data centers of a major hyperscale cloud provider under a multi-year agreement worth billions of dollars. Lumilens is developing pluggable, near-packaged and co-packaged optical systems for both scale-out and scale-up GPU networks. The funding highlights an increasingly important layer of the AI supply chain as moving data between accelerators becomes a limiting factor in overall system performance.
