Amazon Enters the $3 Trillion Club as AWS and AI Spending Accelerate

Reuters · 2026-08-03

Amazon crossed a $3 trillion market valuation as investors rewarded accelerating AWS growth and expanding AI infrastructure investment.

Why it matters: Amazon is showing the market a version of AI capex tied directly to accelerating cloud revenue.

Amazon crossed a $3 trillion market valuation for the first time as investors rewarded accelerating cloud growth and the company's expanding artificial-intelligence infrastructure strategy.

The move followed results showing strong growth from Amazon Web Services and a larger capital-expenditure plan supporting data centers, custom processors, networking and other infrastructure required for AI workloads.

Technology investors have become increasingly selective about large AI spending programs. Companies are being rewarded when capital expenditure produces measurable cloud revenue, but penalized when infrastructure costs rise without corresponding growth.

AWS is also expanding its custom-silicon strategy through Trainium, Graviton and Nitro. That gives Amazon another way to compete with Microsoft and Google while reducing reliance on externally supplied processors.

The valuation milestone is symbolic, but it reflects confidence that Amazon's AI spending is producing revenue rather than merely increasing costs.
