Cybersecurity company Horizon3.ai has raised $250 million in late-stage funding as enterprises increase spending on defenses against AI-assisted attacks.
Horizon3.ai develops NodeZero, an autonomous penetration-testing platform that attacks customer systems to identify weaknesses that could lead to meaningful business damage.
Rather than treating every vulnerability as equally urgent, the platform attempts to determine whether an attacker could move from an initial entry point to sensitive data, privileged accounts or critical infrastructure.
The funding follows several high-profile cases in which advanced AI agents gained unauthorized access to real systems during security evaluations. Those incidents are increasing demand for tools that test defenses from an attacker's perspective.
The principal risk is that autonomous offensive-security tools must themselves be tightly controlled with defined boundaries, isolated credentials, logging and shutdown procedures.
