Nvidia Reportedly Invests $5 Billion in Safe Superintelligence
Nvidia has formed a long-term partnership with Ilya Sutskever's Safe Superintelligence and will provide Vera Rubin systems, while Reuters reports that the chipmaker's equity investment is worth $5 billion.
Why it matters: The deal links frontier-model financing directly to next-generation compute supply and shows Nvidia using strategic investments to expand demand for its own infrastructure.
Nvidia has formed a long-term strategic partnership with Safe Superintelligence, the artificial-intelligence laboratory co-founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever.
The companies confirmed that Nvidia invested in SSI and will provide access to its next-generation Vera Rubin computing platform. SSI said the combination of new capital and infrastructure will increase its available compute by an order of magnitude. The companies also plan to collaborate on technical improvements to Nvidia's current and future platforms.
Reuters reported that Nvidia's equity investment is approximately $5 billion, citing a person briefed on the transaction. Neither Nvidia nor SSI disclosed the amount in their public announcement, so the figure remains reported rather than company-confirmed.
The agreement deepens Nvidia's relationship with one of the most closely watched frontier-AI laboratories. SSI has maintained a narrow research mission centered on developing powerful AI systems while prioritizing safety and alignment.
For Nvidia, the partnership creates another major Vera Rubin customer and provides feedback from researchers working near the frontier of model development. It also illustrates the company's expanding role in the AI economy: Nvidia is increasingly investing directly in laboratories and infrastructure projects that will purchase and operate its computing systems.
The companies did not disclose SSI's valuation, the deployment schedule for the additional capacity or other commercial terms.
