S&P Global to Acquire Data-Center Intelligence Platform datacenterHawk
S&P Global has agreed to acquire datacenterHawk, combining asset-level data-center and fiber intelligence with power-market, grid, energy and technology research. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Why it matters: The acquisition connects data-center site intelligence with power, grid and capital-market data as AI infrastructure constraints become more valuable to investors and operators.
S&P Global has agreed to acquire datacenterHawk as demand grows for better intelligence on the power, land, fiber and construction capacity supporting artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
datacenterHawk provides asset-level information on data-center supply and demand, development pipelines, pricing, site selection and network infrastructure. Its customers include operators, developers, investors, enterprises and network providers.
S&P Global plans to combine that information with its existing 451 Research technology analysis and data covering power markets, grid infrastructure, energy supply, sustainability and critical materials.
The acquisition reflects a major change in the data-center industry. These facilities were once evaluated primarily as commercial real-estate and telecommunications assets. AI development has made electricity availability, transmission capacity, cooling, construction schedules and chip supply equally important.
Combining those datasets could allow investors and operators to compare planned computing demand with the power and infrastructure actually available in each market. S&P Global also expects the transaction to support new analytics, benchmarks and indices covering compute demand, data-center pricing and infrastructure availability.
Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. The deal shows that data about AI infrastructure is becoming a valuable market in its own right.
